You Decide - Scenarios Two students decide to wear a shirt stating "Be Happy, Not Gay" during the day of national silence, an advocacy day for homosexuals who have felt 'silenced' in the past. Their school allows students to participate in this day, however does not let these students where their shirts. The students' parents take the school district to court citing that their children's first amendment rights have violated. A man breaks into a person's home attempting to steal a plasma television set. During the robbery, the home owner wakes up, grabs his gun, and confronts the burglar. In trying to escape the burglar drops the television and jumps out the window. The shattered glass causes him to bleed profusely as he runs home. The police find him dead the next morning in an alley due to a substantial loss of blood. The burglar's wife is suing the home owner for wrongful death. A 16 year old girl gets an abortion with out her parents' permission in a state where you must have parental consent if you are under the age of 18. The parents decide to punish the daughter by taking her to court for breaking the law and neglecting grandparent's rights. An eighth grade girl wear a t-shirt stating 'Barbie is a Lesbian' to school only to have the administration demand that she change or be picked up by her parents. When refusing, she is suspended for three days for insubordination and disrespect. The parents and the girl sue for violating the first amendment freedom of expression. A parent tells their child to remain seating during the pledge of allegiance as it violates the first commandment that 'there is not god before me'. The teacher asks them to stand as a sign of acknowledgement and respect, and when they constantly refuse they are sent to the office where they are suspended for insubordination. The parents of the child press charges against the district for violating their child's first amendment freedom of speech and establishment of religion. A Native American elderly woman is taking a plane ride from Phoenix, Arizona to Buffalo, New York. It is her tribe's belief that when passing through or over her tribe's place of origin (eastern Arizona), it is customary to drink 'until the dancing spirits joyfully take over your body' as they use to do during celebrations or significant war victories. Upon landing the lady is arresting for violating federal aviation restrictions and being drunk and disorderly in public. Five African American males are at a gentlemen's club celebrating a friend's wedding. The groom to be has had a few drinks, gets rowdy, and is asked to leave the premises. After heated debate, the man finally leaves when the owner states that the police have been called. The police arrive as the man is stumbling outside cursing. He is defiant and won't sit down or cooperate with the police at the scene. Stumbling away he flashes a gun. A cop notices it and asks him to hand it over. Instead he grabs it, shouting he points it in the air as the cop fires at him. He is taken to a hospital where he dies a couple hours later. The groom to be's fiancé and family wants to press charges for wrongful death and racist activity. A child is at a birthday party at a friend's home and participates in hitting the piñata. After their turn they step to the side and watch as others play only to be smacked in the head with the bat resulting in the loss of consciousness for approximately 5 minutes. The parents of the child decide to take the birthday child's parents to court for negligence and child endangerment. Looking for a judgment, not a sentence, a man and his in-laws are battling over what to do with his wife/their daughter. The daughter, Terri, was in a car accident in 1995 and has resulted in the loss of brain activity and in a vegetative state since the day of the accident. The husband wants to let her go while the parents want to keep her hooked to hospital machinery. An elderly man with Alzheimer's hears a noise in his garage. After calling out several warnings with no response the figure walks towards the elderly man who fires out two shots. After running inside and calling the police the man, the investigators and elderly man realize that the man was his grandson trying to sneak beer out of the fridge.
