Moving and Shaking! If you’ve driven down Tennyson Street, you’ve heard it. If you’ve visited the building, you’ve felt it. Construction is all around us here at Arrupe Jesuit High School, and we couldn’t be more excited! The photos below represent just the beginning of the exciting changes underway on 4343 Utica Street...come by for a dusty boot tour, or visit our website for more photos!
And so it begins - Preparing the site for the foundation.
Forms are installed for concrete pouring, giving us the first glimpse of the new footprint.
Everything has its place - Support pillars and the new stairwell site are mapped out.
Moving on up! The main floor concrete is poured and smoothed for longevity.
Though dark inside, these foundation “bones” are starting to look like a real building!
Celebrate! The last foundation beam is raised into place after being signed by faculty, staff, & students.

The President’s Corner
‘Behold, days are coming’, declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth.’ (Jeremiah 33:14-16)
Dear Friends of Arrupe Jesuit,
Rev. Timothy McMahon, SJ
Advent is the season of waiting, not just standing around waiting, but creative waiting. We pray, work, and examine our lives in preparation for the celebration of the birth of the savior, of His new life leaping into our world.
How fitting that in this season of waiting, of anticipation, of hoping, we should be waiting in anticipation here at Arrupe Jesuit! As you saw on the cover page, big things are happening here on Utica Street, and everyone from the students and staff to the neighbors and donor community are growing anxious for this beautiful new space to open. Thank you for being a part of the preparation. Your support, prayers, and guidance are crucial to the success of our talented faculty and staff as they work to fulfill the mission of Arrupe Jesuit.
With this support, we have grown to an enrollment of over 370 students and eight graduating classes! As we look to the expanding future of all the students who will attend Arrupe Jesuit, we are thankful for your continued partnership. The actual cost to educate a student is $12,500, which is offset by their Corporate Work Study Program earnings of $6,000. Your gifts at this time, and throughout the year, help to bridge the $5,300 gap we face with each student. As we continue to serve the neediest youth in our community (the average income for a family of four is $32,598), your support is what makes our student’s dream of an education at Arrupe Jesuit a reality. God bless you and those you love.
Rev. Timothy M. McMahon, SJ

The Corporate Work Study Program has added a new twist to its transportation plan this year. In order to bypass the traffic woes on I-25, all students who work in the Denver Tech Center (DTC) and Inverness areas are now traveling via RTD light rail. Each week, 77 students ride the train to their CWSP jobs and back. Upon arrival in the DTC, students travel to their building using a combination of RTD Call and Ride shuttles and an Arrupe Jesuit shuttle bus that now stages out of the DTC area. Although the light rail passes contribute to slightly increased transportation costs, students now arrive back at AJHS anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour earlier in the evening than when transported by bus alone.

This year’s Mock Trial Team has a record number of students with 31 budding lawyers in the fold. The team is hard at work preparing for the High School State Mock Trial Competition, where they will tackle a criminal case concerning a coed fraternity house at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs that was burnt to the ground during a 2014 Bid Day party. Is freshman Taylor Styles, charged with first degree arson and attempted extreme indifference murder, guilty or innocent? With mounting evidence on both sides, our fledgling lawyers are ready to take on the case. We are grateful to the Law Firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP for their support, as well as several lawyers in the local community who come every Friday night to help prepare the Arrupe Jesuit Team. Go Generals!

The scholarship excitement has begun! Senior Walker Sanchez won this year’s new Better Business Bureau Foundation’s Student of Integrity Technology Education Scholarship, sponsored by Illumen. Walker has demonstrated character and ethics by assisting and motivating others in the workplace by being an excellent example of what an outstanding worker should be. His post-secondary education plans are to pursue a degree in engineering or architectural engineering.
We are proud to announce that our math department was awarded the CenturyLink Teachers & Technology grant! This program identifies, highlights and recognizes Colorado K-12 teachers who are using technology in new and innovative ways. At Arrupe Jesuit, the grant helped to fund the purchase and implementation of a classroom set of TI-Nspire CX Handheld calculators and the TI-Nspire Navigator System which connects the wireless classroom network for our senior pre-calculus course. This is the next step in the evolution of technology for our math curriculum because it offers more streamlined functionality with a high-res, color display that is engaging for students. The wireless network also provides many interactive features including file sharing, real-time student polling, and real-time live presentation of any students’ calculator screen. Congratulations, and thank you to CenturyLink and PEBC for providing this opportunity!
Sports Success
Fall sports have just completed a great season! Cross Country runner, Joanna, set a new school record as AJ’s highest place finisher at the state championship meet! Multiple student athletes were also named to all-conference games, or received honorable mentions, including 5 from boys soccer and 3 from girls volleyball.
We are always looking for dedicated coaches. If you are interested in working with one of our teams (Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball), please contact Athletic Director John Pimmel at
