This module looks in-depth at the impacts of wildlife management and intervention. From knowing how to survey and monitor an area, the students will now learn about what happens when our management intervenes. Case studies of accidental and deliberate reintroduction of species will be used to evaluate the success, failure and impact on environments and management plans. Relationships and reliance between species will be explored, together with the benefits of biodiversity. The management of rescued wildlife will be of particular focus as will the design of a management plan for the protection and conservation of a given area. Formative assessment will be given to students throughout. The aim is to provide the student with a clear understanding of the impact of management and the delicate balance of species, and how these need to be carefully monitored and cared for through a considered management approach. The focus is on conservation and conserving the status of habitats. Module Outcomes To achieve credit for this module, students must: 1. Be aware of the scale and importance of conserving habitats as key elements of our environment. 2. Understand the general legislative framework governing the protection of the habitats, major site designations and the roles of Government, Statutory Agencies and Non-Governmental Institutions. 3. Be familiar with conservation management objectives. 4. Be able to produce a management plan for a specified area aimed at conserving British wildlife.
