MAUNU SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 4 Thursday 23 March 2017 www.maunu.school.nz Dear Parents and Caregivers, I would like to congratulate all those people (students, staff, parents, friends) who have represented Maunu School out there in the wider community this year. We have had children involved in swimming champs, attending community events like the Selwyn Village Country Picnic and the hugely successful Adventure Week for Rms 9, 10 & 14. They have been a credit to themselves, their families and the school. It is important to us that children learn how to act in different situations and to respect the position they hold. Being able to acknowledge others for their efforts and successes (especially when you may be disappointed with your own result) is a quality that sets “winners” apart from “losers”, as is acknowledging the work that others do. So far the Maunu children have shown themselves to be absolute winners! And what great role models they have in the school groups (PTA and BoT) who selflessly give up their time to support the children of the school. The PTA work tirelessly throughout the year and are amazed in their application, commitment and dedication to ensuring we can resource the school to the best of our ability. Thank you so much for all you do. The BoT is a group of people who tend to work in the background, ensuring the school is managed in the best possible way. Much of their work is not seen by the public, but the hours required to keep on top of things is considerable. Maunu School is fortunate to have such a focused group at the helm. The health of a school can sometimes be seen by the parental and community support it gets for trips and activities. The support we have had for trips has been amazing, as evidenced by the great numbers involved in the Adventure Week organisation. We know it can be very difficult for parents to give their time in this very busy and complex world, and we thank you for the effort and organisation you make to help the children on their learning journey. It has been shown that a child’s achievement, self-worth and success increases when parents are actively involved in their education and learning. This could be by keeping in touch with the teacher, asking your child questions about their day or involving yourself when you can with activities. If your child knows you are
concerned about their learning, they are more likely to engage themselves in a positive way. Let’s keep moving forward and ensuring Maunu School is a place of higher learning and a land of opportunities. Paul Shepherd UNCLAIMED PROPERTY IS FULL
The amount of unclaimed property is ridiculous and out of control. None of the items are named and while children are directed to the pile, it is not reducing. We do not have space to store this so every Friday after an assembly (even weeks) the unclaimed items will be taken away, washed and given to a charitable cause. You can help us immensely by naming your child’s clothing, and by insisting your child returns home with the clothes they left home in. WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS Hello to Sophia King and Billie Lewis who have joined Rooms 3 and 4 and to Cheyd DunnSchwenke who has started in Room 1 this week. SCHOOL POOL KEYS BACK Thank you to those that have already returned their school pool key. If you have yet to do so then please drop your key off ASAP to the school office. PICKING CHILDREN UP EARLY? If you are picking your children up early from school for any reason please call in to the school office FIRST and sign them out before you go to their class to get them. Many Thanks
