Friday 31 August – Term Three Week 6, 2018 Tena ra koutou ki nga hau e wha – Greetings to everybody. A large group of our students participated in the Whangarei Schools’ Cross Country on Wednesday. We were extremely fortunate with the weather after a night of pouring rain. The children demonstrated great behaviour and sportsmanship, and gave their very best effort. They can be very proud of themselves, as we are. Cross country running is always a great feat of endurance and perseverance. Thank you to all of the parents who helped out with supervision on the day. Thanks also to Jan Olney for organizing our preparation and participation in this event. Production tickets are now on sale. All classes are involved in the performance, which is a special school event that occurs every three years. Some of our senior students are involved in the Speech NZ competition, which is an annual event that takes place for our students next Friday. The students involved in this have been working hard on their three compulsory activities. Thanks to Shelley Muston for working with the students and organizing our participation in this event. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Naku Noa Rob Posthumus
HAPPY HURUPAKI BIRTHDAY TO: Flynn Murtagh, Sophie Bowker and Qwinn CotterillHaenga!!!! Whangarei Inter-School Cross Country Congratulations to all the 52 competitors. Despite weather warnings, the cross country at Barge Park went ahead and luckily the weather had improved making conditions ideal for this event. Our teams ran extremely well, showing all that training had paid off. Children displayed determination and resilience under some quite tricky circumstances. In most races there were over 130 children competing, made up of the top runners of each age group, from 42 schools. Many thanks to the parent managers, Kaylee Walker, Russell Plank, Clare Bolesworth and Jennie Cross, for your help. Those who came in the top 20 now have the opportunity to compete on September 19th at the Northland Cross Country. Official results will be out later - once received.
Loved and Local Cookbook Update Hello Hurupaki Families, This week we would like to announce another fabulous local business that is contributing towards producing our cookbook. A BIG thank you to McLeod's Pizza Barn who are sponsoring the 'Dinner' chapter in our book and have gifted us a delicious recipe. McLeod's Pizza Barn, located in Waipu, is Northland's destination for family fun and good food. Clayton, my brother, and I have now had McLeod's Pizza Barn for the past 15 years. We see the Barn in the mould of a classic country pub, based around food and family - where anyone coming to Waipu can get a sense of the area's history & community.
Thank you to McLeod's Pizza Barn!
The Local & Loved Team.
