SECTION 1 – INTRODUCTION CONTEXT Selecting national teams is a core function of New Zealand Ultimate (NZU), and the increased growth of Ultimate in New Zealand over recent years, has provided an increased need for administrative support to improve the experience and results of those teams. The NZU uniform committee falls within this administrative support. NZU sends teams in the open, women’s, mixed and open masters divisions, and there is scope for the inclusion of teams to attend the World Age Group Championships (U19 and U23) as well as women’s masters division in the next 4 year cycle. There is also potential for national teams to play other nations in ‘friendly’ competitions within the 4 year cycle.
PURPOSE The purposes of this policy is to ensure that all New Zealand national representative Ultimate teams are outfitted in uniforms that conform to the guidelines for events that the teams will participate in and are; Appropriate; Consistent; Easily identifiable; Meaningful; Good looking; Attractive to players, spectators and sponsors .
SCOPE The teams that come under the term National Representative teams are as follows:

The call for applications may occur before or after September, depending on the timing of major events. It is the intention of this policy to call for application following the completion of a major event such as (but not limited to WUC or WUCC). Uniform Design
4.1
The primary role of the uniform committee is to coordinate the design of a standard uniform package for all New Zealand national teams. This design should be used for a four year cycle. This role has several dimensions; 1. Produce a uniform that meets the requirements of the WFDF world championship uniform specifications. 2. Design the elements of the standard uniform package. There are some essential components. These are; A travel uniform (this could be a polo shirt/warm-up jacket/sweatshirt, etc with black pants/shorts) A playing uniform (minimum is one pair of shorts and 2 different coloured playing shirts; a primary shirt and an alternative). 3. The standard uniform package may include other elements. These could include; Hats, bags, tracksuits, rain jackets. 4. The uniform committee should also determine if there are optional extra elements to the standard uniform package. E.g. extra shirts for trading. 5. Select a company or companies to produce the elements of the standard uniform package. 6. Consider uniform for support staff / supporters / sponsors 7. Incorporate sponsorship onto the standard uniform if and as required.
4.2

4.3
The elements of the standard uniform package, and the design of these elements must be signed off by the NZU Board before any orders can placed. Once the standard uniform package is complete, the Committee will present a final proposal to the NZU Board for sign off. The NZU Board must sign-off any customisations of the standard uniform package that any team may wish to make.
Once the management for a New Zealand National team has been appointed by the NZU board, the uniform committee should make contact with the team manager(s) to discuss delivery of the uniform to that team. The responsibilities in this engagement are; Committee Initiate engagement with the managers and communicate minimum delivery timelines. i.e. the latest date that uniforms can be ordered. Communicate the elements in the standard uniform package and the ordering options Provide sample uniforms to the managers to allow sizing. Particular focus should be given to ensuring that there are appropriate (and different) sizing for both men and women. Order the uniform (all elements) for the team Organise payment to the uniform suppliers Co-ordinate with managers on delivery of the uniform. Managers Indicate the number of uniform packages required (support staff and athletes) as early as possible Provide any team specific logos/artwork for customising uniforms if required Provide event specific logos/artwork for customising uniforms Provide playing numbers for athletes (and link these to sizing information) Provide sizing information for athletes / support staff / supporters and indicate the roles of the support staff Provide item quantities for each element of the standard package (within the rules set by the uniform committee) for each member of the touring party (athletes and support staff) Ensure all athletes/support staff have paid for their uniform. Provide feedback to the uniform committee on the uniform
4.4
Uniform Gguidelines 4.4.1 4.4.2
4.4.3 4.5
There are special rules regarding the requirements for uniforms at a WFDF event. The committee must ensure that these rules are adhered to in the uniform design. The uniform committee does not have authority to negotiate or enter into any sponsorship agreement or similar for the supply of New Zealand team uniforms. Sponsorship agreements can only be negotiated by and made between a sponsor and the NZU Board. However, the uniform committee is encouraged to research and identify potential sponsorship opportunities. Once the 2012 design is complete the NZU Board should be briefed on this design (prior to ordering the first issue).
Uniform Design Guidelines 4.5.1
The primary strip shall consist of a predominately black shirt and black shorts.
4.5.2
The alternative strip shall be of a contrasting colour. It is thought that this would be predominantly white but alternatives will be considered and can be submitted for approval.
4.5.3
The design of the shirt shall be reflective of NZ and incorporate elements that are recognisable as being of NZ. Uniforms from other National Sport Teams should be looked at as a reference
4.5.4
The uniform shall be consistent across all teams. It is the intention that all teams wear shirts with the same design. Small elements, such as a design on the sleeve, or logo on the chest, or design features towards the bottom of the garment, can be used to differentiate the garments for each team or unique event.
4.5.4
The design should include the New Zealand Ultimate Maori Design.
