Grandview Heights Summer Reading Plan and Library Partnership Did you know that the brain, just like the body, needs exercise? As your children are walking, playing, swimming, and biking this summer, make sure they are keeping their minds active as well!
GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY ghpl.org
Research shows that reading 200 pages per week, or only 29 pages per day, increases student achievement and promotes cognitive growth. Kids that spend just 30 minutes a day over the summer reading, and then discussing what they’ve read, are better prepared when school resumes in the fall.
You are not on your own when it comes to encouraging your children to read throughout the summer! Grandview City Schools and the Grandview Heights Public Library have partnered to ensure you have access to a number of opportunities to help your children read and continue building fluency and comprehension skills.
In addition to the valuable online resources listed on the back, the schools and the Library are also offering booklists for students in kindergarten through high school! The lists can accessed by visiting: http://ghpl.org/news/index.php?i=446 .
This is also a great time to mention Grandview Public Library’s Summer Reading Club, which runs May 26 – August 1. Kids of all ages can read their way to great prizes and summertime fun! We need help to keep your children’s reading skills moving forward. We know we can’t do it alone. As a parent, YOU are your children’s most influential role model as well as the Grandview Schools’ and Grandview Library’s most important partner. Talk to your children about a summer reading plan and, together, complete the form on the back. Then, get ready for a summer full of exercise for the mind and body!
