Learn about STEM and see how we use STEM here at Royal. We will engage in fun activities that help develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. STEM Night is on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Sign in at the cafeteria at 6:00 pm. ELL News Our ELL students did a great job taking their annual WIDA test in February. All 4 parts: speaking, listening, reading, and writing were completed. Test results are expected by May. Parent letters will be send home with student test scores and explanations. Thank you to all who have encouraged and helped our ELL students to achieve in everything they do! Parent Corner Thursday February 18th, Royal School’s PCNC hosted a SAVINGS workshop for parents. There were 30 parents who participated in the fun! Turns out, our parents know a good deal when they see it!! They learned useful tips about budgeting and EXTREME COUPONING from one of our very own Royal School parents, Uluwehi Urata. PLUS found some amazing deals at our indoor swap meet. Mahalo for all the parents who participated in this workshop! If you missed it, don’t feel bad, there are plenty more ways for you to get involved here at Royal School. Save the date for these upcoming events: March 9th, FUN FAIR TOPIA ticket pre-sale. The PTA will be selling pre-sale tickets for FUN FAIR TOPIA from 12:30-1:30pm (after school) and 5-7pm (at STEM night) on March 9th. You will be able to purchase $20 worth of tickets for ONLY $15! This is a ONE DAY ONLY SALE, so plan ahead and save money! March 12th, 9am-12pm at Royal School. The theme for this year’s fun fair is FUN FAIRTOPIA, which is inspired by the upcoming Disney film Zootopia. We encourage families to come dressed as their favorite zoo animal and join us for a morning full of FUN, FOOD, SHOPPING and GAMES!!! If you’re interested in helping with this event, contact our PCNC at 587-4510 or PTA and stay tuned for more info! March 15th is the deadline to order your yearbooks for the 2015-2016 school year! You can send in your $16 cash payment in the Lifetouch envelope that was sent home last month. Or you can order yours online at ybpay.lifetouch.com with Yearbook ID code: 11165416. April 12th, Lunch with Keiki. Back by popular demand is Royal School’s LUNCH with KEIKI! This is an event that both parents and children look forward to all year long. Parents can buy a nutritious lunch from the school cafeteria or bring their own bento from home and eat lunch with their child here at Royal School on this day. C.A.R.E. Corner Counselor Advocates Royal Education Suggestions for a successful student: Make family time a priority. Try and have at least 3 – 4 mealtimes together a week. Game nights are a great idea. Just quiet reading or listening to music together helps create a sense of family too. Student Council News: th February was a very busy month. School spirit day was on February 5 and the classes with 100% participation were A5 and B12!

Our yearly Career Day was held on February 11 for Grades 2 through 5. We had some awesome guest speakers this year such as an Advertising team, Nurse Practitioners from Queen’s, a FBI Special Agent, a Sportscaster, a Model, HPD, a Travel Agent, an Architect, a Budget Specialist from the DOE and even our own PTA President Zach Bumgardner.
The college that was showcased this month was Vanderbilt University. For Culture day we shared a popular Samoan dessert called Panipopo. nd

Student Council also began their Food Drive on February 22 . It will end on March 11 so please donate a can or two if you are able to. Your child can bring the canned food to their classroom where it will be picked up by the Student Council members. Canned foods will be donated to the Hawaii Food Bank. Pajama Day will be held on March 15th. It will be great to just roll out of bed and come to school. Healthy nutrition is important. In addition to lunch, breakfast is served from 7:15 am until 7:50 am daily. Make sure that your child’s meal account has monies to provide daily nourishment. Morning snacks from home may be eaten at recess time. Suggestions include: fresh fruits, crackers, low salt chips, low sugar and salt snacks. Contact information in school office must be kept current to help school keep parents informed regarding child(ren). Report all address and phone changes as they occur. Fire Drills are conducted each month to ensure that children know procedures to follow during an emergency. Personal safety o Students arriving before 7:15 am breakfast service must have parent or adult supervision o Students who cannot be picked up within half an hour of school dismissal are encouraged to contact Nuuanu YMCA for afterschool program
Upcoming Extra Curricular Activities 2016 District Speech Festival will be at Kaimuki High School on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Information on how to participate to be one of fifteen entrants representing Royal School will be coming home soon. Open to students in Grades 3-5. Update re: Fun Fairtopia on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to noon Central Middle School (enter from Queen Emma Street) will be available for overflow parking once Queen Emma Street lot and on-street parking is filled.
