MAUNU SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 19 Thursday 6 December 2018 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Greetings to you all, Tena koe, Kveðjur, Silavan, Sveikinimai "May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks. May your heart be as light as a song. May each day bring you bright happy hours, That stay with you all year long." (Irish Blessing) It is that time of year when we are presenting our final newsletter of the year. I would like to thank all the people who have supported the school over the year. Maunu School is fortunate to have a great team of parents, family members and friends who support us in our programmes. We try to provide as many opportunities as we can in as many different areas as possible, but this wouldn’t be possible without your support. The support you have given us with camps, trips, in the classroom, the Friday Sausage Sizzle, at Country Fair, and other events is a feature of the school. It wouldn’t be the same without you all. To the Board of Trustees, a huge thank you for the positive way you work toward the school being the best it can be. The commitment you show for the students and families of the school is awesome. The staff also value the support you give to them in so many ways. The PTA have had another wonderful year. They work tirelessly to support the school. The funds they raise go directly to supporting the students at Maunu School. We are fortunate to have some excellent sponsors who support us in a number of ways. We thank you for all that you do. The teachers have worked hard to provide a range of opportunities, support and programmes to ensure each child can be their very best. They have been continuing to develop innovative learning environments as well as ensuring the core learning areas are a focus. They have gone above and beyond in many areas to give as many students as possible a chance to shine. We are so lucky to have the most awesome support staff - office, caretaker, library and learning support. These wonderful people keep the machine moving and their

dedication and enthusiasm is much appreciated by all. The children have all worked hard over the course of the year. There are always learning opportunities to be had and it is great to see children having a go at new and different challenges. We farewell our Year 6 students, who are now ready for the next stage of their learning journey. Thank you for your contributions to the school, not only this year but in the past. Remember all the good times you have had here and that you will always be part of Maunu School. To all those families who end their time with us we wish you all the best and thank you for your involvement. For some it is 10 years or more - a truly significant association. Term 1 2019: Sabbatical; I have been awarded a TeachNZ sabbatical for term 1. This is a research term where I will be looking into the topic: “Inclusion of diverse cultures in NZ schools”. I will be looking at what schools in NZ do to help families from a variety of ethnic cultures assimilate into the NZ education system and the schooling structure. I will be talking to community groups, other schools around NZ and looking at the overseas research. I will also be attending a Future Schools conference in Melbourne in March. Claire Turton will be Acting Principal for term 1. Nga mihi Paul Shepherd Principal

Thanks go to ten4 Transport, General & Design Engineers for their very generous sponsorship. We were lent a top of the range mobile kitchen and BBQ trailer to use for the duration of camp. We would also like to thank the Hoyle family for supplying lettuce for camp. POOL KEYS AVAILABLE NOW Keys are $90 each - numbers are limited and are available for purchase from the school office now.
