around the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop So, we all know parking in the district is bad. It can be especially bad and confusing on the hill. If you can METRO you should, but if you must drive make sure you leave plenty of time to find a parking spot and READ THE SIGNS! We (dog & pony dc and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop) are not responsible for tickets, towing or what-have-you. Except for a few midnight extremes on Barracks Row, there are no parking restrictions after 9:30pm. And the further west and north of CHAW you go, the earlier the restrictions end (like 8:30pm, and sometimes even 6:30pm). • There are two hour limits until 9:30 pm around 5th and K Street SE, and on 7th at I, G & E Streets SE. There is a two hour limit until 8:30pm on C Street SE between 6th and 7th Streets. • There is three hour metered parking ($1/hour) along Virginia Ave SE between 7th and 5th Streets and along I Street SE , between 7th and 8th. • There is four hour metered parking on Pennsylvania Avenue SE from between 8th and 11th Streets, and under the over pass on 7th Street SE between Virginia Ave and I Street. • There seems to be unzoned, unmetered parking on 7th Street SE just north of Pennsylvania Ave for half a block after 6pm. Also on G Street SE between 10th and 11th after 4pm. And on I Street SE between 10th and 11th Streets. And on Virginia Ave SE after 6:30 pm between 8th and 9th Streets. And on 9th Street SE between Potomac Ave and L Street. And on L Street SE between 8th and 9th Streets. And after 6:30 pm on 8th Street SE between Virginia Ave and I Streets. Some of these spots require a bit of a walk, but if you’re cheap (and somehow still insist on driving) they are there. • As far as we can tell the strange parking lot on 8th Street SE between I Street and Virginia Avenue (under the SE/SW freeway overpass) is a public lot and free. Not confirmed, but worth checking out. • There is a parking lot on L Street SE, between 5th and 7th Streets. It’s $8. Here’s the trick though. There’s only an attendant on duty until 7pm. If you arrive before 7pm, you pay $8, and you can leave at any hour, but no one can be admitted after 7pm. Special thanks to Taffety Punk for doing most of this research.
