Our Parish Vision Notre Dame of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic community of faith called to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of bringing about the Kingdom. Our Parish Mission
Formed by the Word, fed at the Table, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we INVITE, WELCOME and GUIDE each other into relationship with Christ, to GO OUT and MAKE missionary disciples.
Staff An Invitation for Conversation.. Nametag weekends are an opportunity to build our community as a place where we can be greeted with a smile and be personally acknowledged — a place where “everybody knows your name.” During Mass, Nametag weekends open our hearts to pray for one another in a more personal way, as we offer a special intention for someone seated by us. After Mass, we are all encouraged to greet each other and simply invite one another to conversation. Nametag weekends might challenge some of us to step out of our comfort zones; yet, we surely know it is often the simplest conversations that lead to wonderful opportunities for faith and friendship in Christ. So join us as we invite you to wear a Nametag and help us multiply lots of great conversations in this our spiritual home. What a positive effort to associate with our church!

FORGIVENESS Nearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father became seriously ill. The mother called the son and told him he had better come soon. The son walked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: “Did you ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?” Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live for the Lord and die for the Lord. Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way.

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK: CAN YOU SPARE YOURS?
SENIOR LUNCHEONS RESUME! Tomorrow, Monday, September 18, following our 12:10pm Mass. We look forward to seeing you!
Shepherd’s Call…
CALLING OUR LITTLE FLOCK!
One of our main goals as a parish is to extend a warm sense of welcome and hospitality to all who enter our spiritual space – so many credit this welcoming spirit as the reason they were drawn to our parish. It is a spirit we can all share in small and big ways, through visible and behind the scenes tasks – it is not something to be done by just a few, but something to be done with everyone’s help. In that light, we are in need of willing hands and hearts to help out as follows:
Welcoming children We need a crew of folks to help restore our Gathering Space 1– 4 yrs. old in the after the 12:15pm Mass on Sundays – just vacuum the carpet, clear the donuts, coffee & tea containers, wipe Youth Ministry Rm. tables, etc. With a few helpers at hand, this can be taken while parents a end care of in 15 to 20 minutes. With a nice group of folks on 9 AM or 10:30 AM the list of available helpers, each would only be scheduled to help every so often. Mass.
Shepherd’s Call Ministry provides a safe, Christ‐centered environment for your li le one(s) in the Youth Ministry Room, while you fully par cipate in Sunday Mass!

These are great opportunities for anyone to help – as any minister in the parish may testify, we are far more blessed by our giving than receiving. So reach out to us, invite a family member or friend to join you in serving your parish family! Contact Melissa, our Parish Secretary at 973-538-1358, ext.100 /

SPECIAL NEEDS TEEN & YOUNG ADULT YOUTH MINISTRY
We are so excited to offer this youth ministry opportunity to teens and young adults with special needs. The groups meet on selected Fridays (twice/month), from 5pm – 7pm in our Youth Ministry Room (a session schedule is available on our website under Faith Formation). The participants come together to enrich their faith and socialize – it is a wonderful outlet for these special disciples to gather for fun and camaraderie in a safe environment. Ministry activities include: Review scripture readings at the beginning of each meeting. Attend 5:30 PM Mass with emphasis on listening to the word and the priest's homily. Share dinner together and socialize. Discuss scripture readings and the message of the homily. Share day-to-day experiences or anything special they would like to discuss. We also address any questions they may have about their faith. If a member of your family or someone you know would like to participate in our Special Needs Youth Ministry gatherings, please contact Cathy Ferramosca at
[email protected] / (973) 540-8711. YOUNG ADULTS, CHECK OUT INSIDE THE WALLS— St. Paul’s Young Adult group is a faith-based community for anyone between the ages of 23 to 39 looking for a place to call home. By means of “pub nights,” social and service events, and Sunday Masses, friendships are formed and lives are shared. Wherever you may be in your faith journey, St Paul’s Young Adults offers opportunities to explore a belief in God in an open dialogue with others.

6pm Adoration / 7pm Mass / 7:30pm Young Adult Event
“Eucharistic Adoration is a powerful spiritual experience that allows me to sit silently with Jesus to pray about the previous week and the week ahead. I ask Him for the grace to include Him in all my daily activities. He always comes through. Adoration has touched my heart so deeply that I have grown substantially in my faith journey. It only takes one hour of my week, but the graces I receive are numerous! We are so fortunate to have this ministry here.” (M. Pellerine)

Young Adult Disciples: Where Are They Now? It is undoubtedly concerning to hear about and see so many of our youth disconnecting from our faith. It is often assumed we are losing our youth to secularism and many of us fear a complete dismissal of their Christian values. However, our hearts are uplifted by the many who continue to bear the fruits of those seeds of faith planted in their earlier years. We recently heard about a few happenings in the lives of a number of our then teens, now young adults. We share these updates with pride, joy and hope for the greater future of our youth!!
T
ommy Bluj just started his senior year and final season as a football player at Susquehanna much in the past three years at this university, from academic success and gaining significant internship experiences, to receiving all‐ conference recogni on and being a two ‐year captain in football. He has also been nominated for a na onwide award known as the “All State Good Works Team” for his services and commitment to helping others in the community. As we reached out to Tommy to hear more about his recent efforts, he shared how much his experiences of faith at ND have been at the heart of his worthy accomplishments:
“One thing for sure is that I would not have been able to accomplish what I have, or be nominated for such an award if it weren’t for being an ac ve member at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel through the dura on of my high school career.”
I have always believed in God, but becoming an ac ve member at Notre Dame in my early to late teenage years heightened my faith, and it has carried me ever since. My faith really began to strengthen a er my first An och experience, where I began to see the significance of keeping God in your
heart everyday. Eventually I ended up leading An och retreats, and was able to share this effect on my life and advocate to others the significance of having a strong faith in God. I also took part in Opera on Appalachia, where I was able to help improve the lives and homes of families in poverty‐stricken Preston County West Virginia. I was truly humbled by both of these experiences, and what they taught me will forever be embedded in who I am.
resumes and undoubtedly appeal to the public eye, enough maybe to be recognized for a cool award. But I was able to take in these experiences for what they truly are and apply their meaning to my everyday life. I can humbly say that the rewards of keeping a strong faith have helped me and the lives of others, and I am truly blessed my faith endured throughout this journey. I strongly encourage others to partake in all that Notre Dame has to offer, especially those who are transi oning into young adults—I’m sure glad I did.”
