At Keystone Science School, we work hard to in provide everyone? students, parents, teachers, and community members? the opportunity to be their best selves. We believe that the power of inspiring curiosity and critical thinking through the lens of science changes lives and strengthens communities. We create future leaders who can problem solve and work together in an ever-evolving world. In short, we change lives. Key Issues Institute (KI) has been inspiring teachers and future leaders for more than 25 years. We work diligently to make sure that each teacher who attends Key Issues leaves not only with access to the entire curriculum, but also with a network of
fellow peers and an unforgettable experience. This summer we were thrilled to host 90 teachers in the beautiful Colorado Rockies. We feel privileged to have worked with such a tremendous group of educators. We are eager to see how this group will implement the Key Issues framework in their classrooms, as well as the impact they will have on their communities. Best,

TEACHERS The 2016 Key Issues Institute hosted 90 teachers from all over the world to engage in a week long STEM workshop. They used a 10 step framework which guides them through scientific, non-biased problem solving.
STUDENTS Each teacher who attends Key Issues Institute will, on average, reach 150 students per year with the curriculum from the workshop. The impact on students is exponential when teachers build it into their units year after year.
21ST CENTURY The Key Issues curriculum has evolved to be compatible not only with educational standards, but also with 21st Century learning goals like technology, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, inter-disciplinary literacy, and global awareness.

OTHER FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES CSI: SUSTAINABLE CITIES This hybrid program unites the investigative focus of our Climate Status Investigations (CSI) curriculum with the critical analysis and big-picture thinking of our Students for Sustainability curriculum. Educators will walk away able to lead their own students through an objective exploration of the many aspects of global climate change using hands-on inquiry. They will also learn techniques and gain curricular tools and lesson plans to explore the environmental, public health, social, and economic impacts of climate change. This training provides teachers with the inquiry-based learning practices, critical thinking skills, remediation processes, and action-taking strategies to analyze and address major issues and come up with viable solutions to real needs in their own communities. By providing a non-biased scientific framework within which to examine issues around global climate change and sustainability, the curriculum improves the decision-making abilities of students without influencing their opinions. The format allows participants to solve problems in a variety of creative ways based on the evidence and data they have collected. Our curriculum encourages teachers and students to use their knowledge to become active community members, both locally and globally as well as preparing our future leaders for STEM careers that may not yet exist.
