Remember when “green building” was considered by many to be a fad? Green building became a movement and is now mainstream. Today, “tiny houses” are being written about in many of the nation’s most respected magazines and newspapers, and several television shows are dedicated to or are including episodes that feature the tiny house phenomenon. So, what is this all about? Simply put, it is a social movement where people are choosing to downsize the space in which they live. Tiny houses come in all shapes, sizes, and forms, but they enable simpler living in a smaller, more efficient space. The typical American home is around 2,600 square feet, whereas the typical tiny house is between 100 and 400 square feet. People are joining this movement for many reasons, but it isn’t necessarily about sacrifice. With thoughtful, innovative designs, some homeowners have discovered a small house actually leads to a simpler yet fuller life, connecting them with family, friends and nature while freeing them from mortgages, wastefulness and an urge to keep up with the Joneses. Tiny homes aren’t just about looking cute — they’re part of a growing movement that promotes minimalist sustainable living. But that doesn’t mean tiny house dwellers have to sacrifice everything. Many designers have figured out innovative ways to make these homes amazingly well-equipped — and, yes, pretty adorable, too.

Yet, for all its advantages, increased connectivity brings increased risk of theft, fraud, and abuse. Network outages, data compromised by hackers, computer viruses and other incidents affect our lives in ways that range from inconvenient to life-threatening. As the number of mobile users, digital applications and data networks increase, so do the opportunities for exploitation. Organizations – from governments to corporations to small businesses – collect, process and store a great deal of confidential information on computers and transmit that data across networks to other computers. With the growing volume and sophistication of cyber attacks, ongoing attention is required to protect sensitive business and personal information, as well as safeguard national security. Cyber security, or information technology security, focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction. In this session, we will share real-world social engineering tactics used by cybercriminals to successfully compromise personal and business systems. Topics include the current state of cybercrime, examples of how criminals try to trick you into gaining access to your systems, and the best methods to protect your data. This session is for anyone interested in protecting information assets at home or work.

The Texas Association of Builders will be hosting its annual HOMEPAC FUNdango in conjunction with this year’s Sunbelt Builders Show™ at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. The festivities will be held outside on the Convention Center Circle Drive and will feature the Statewide Washers Tournament as well as food and drinks, lawn games and a dunking booth. For members looking to participate in the 3rd Annual Washers Buy-In Tournament, you must purchase a $70 per team entry ticket, plus purchase tickets to the FUNdango for $150 each. This event has grown in popularity each of the last two years. HOMEPAC represents your political interests at the state level and is prohibited by law from donating to federal election campaigns. Additionally, HOMEPAC is forbidden by state law from accepting corporate donations and, therefore, may accept only personal or non-corporate contributions. BADGES
The official registration badge should be prominently worn and displayed at all times for prompt admission to the exhibits area, opening session, general sessions and other events. Badges are not transferable and may not be loaned to anyone for any purpose. All Show attendees and exhibitors must wear their badges while on the Show floor except infants in backpacks or slings. If you lose your badge, inquire at the registration area. There will be a $5 per badge fee to replace lost or forgotten badges.

CHILDREN
Children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times when in the exhibit area. Registration for children is complimentary and must be done on-site. All children except infants in backpacks or slings must be registered and have a badge to be admitted to the exhibit area. Children under 18 are not permitted on the Show floor during setup or teardown.
