iHonor Shabbat Table Talk ‐ תצא כי פרשת (Each week we will send home a question about the השבוע פרשת that can be used to start a discussion about honor at your Shabbat Table.) 24:9 Remember what Hashem, your G‐d, did to Miriam on the way, departing from Egypt. We are reminded in this Parsha of what Hashem did to Miriam when she spoke הרע לשון. Just as the Jewish people were leaving Egypt to create a different type of community, Hashem had to send a strong message when Miriam did not act as a role model for this new community. In school we are discussing the importance of honor in a community. Our book of the month, What if Everybody Did That? by Ellen Javernick, will help us generate dialogue in school about being respectful community members. Use the questions below to guide your Shabbat table dialogue. Shabbat shalom! Questions to discuss: How do we honor people with our words? How can we take honor away from people with our words? How do we model for others with our words?

Pre School Points We are off to a great start! It's hard to believe that we only started school last week, we've accomplished so much! The children are discovering all the manipulatives and learning centers in our classroom. They are incorporating class routines and rules into their fun‐filled day. The children are enjoying working on an assortment of readiness activities such as following directions, listening to others, taking turns, sharing with the teachers, working independently, completing assigned tasks, paying attention.... We are looking forward to a year full of fun, learning, growth and development. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to get in touch with us at
[email protected]. We are also looking forward to seeing you at Meet Your Teacher night on Wednesday September 21, at 7:30PM.

Class 1N Weekly Update Welcome to first grade! I am so excited to begin our first weeks of learning together! Literacy: This week we had the opportunity to write our first two reading responses to the books I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont and First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. With both stories we began to use the comprehension strategy of making predictions. We learned that making predictions is when the reader makes a guess about what is going to happen in the story. The reader should use the context and pictures as clues to help make a prediction that would make sense within the story. We also learned about using the comprehension strategy of making text‐to‐self connections. As the reader is reading a story, he or she should think about how he or she may be able to relate to the characters. When reading First Day Jitters, we reflected upon the characters' first day of school and learned "juicy words" to use when describing our feelings towards our own first day of school. When reading I Like Myself, we used "juicy words" to describe what makes us special and unique. Math: We began to learn about the calendar. We spoke about months, dates, days and years. We identified the month, date and year for each day and will continue to do so throughout the year. We also began to count the days of school. We talked about how numbers can be either single or double digit. What a great week we had in 1N!

Rabbi D. Fried's Class 5BF The students of 5BF are off to a great start this school year. The learning has been wonderful, the boys have displayed beautiful Middot and there is an overall enthusiasm in the classroom for Torah and Mitzvot, which is inspiring. We begin every afternoon with Chumash. We are busy with the story of the slavery of Bnei Yisrael in Miztraim. Although the story is well known to us from Parshat Hashavua, it is nice to be able to learn the Pesukim inside. We will also be investing a lot of time and energy into enhancing our Chumash skills and vocabulary. In addition to Chumash, we will be spending much time learning Mishnayot‐ Masechet Succah this year. We generally spend the end of the day learning about the fascinating stories in Sefer Shoftim or preparing for the Chagim. In conclusion, we are so glad to be a part Yeshiva Har Torah and are eagerly anticipating a terrific year together with the rest of the YHT Family. Wishing everyone a K'etiva Va'chatima Tova and a Shabbat Shalom!
