Art News– We made it to the month of May. First and foremost, I would like to send a shout out to all of RYSS for a great school year and for your support! This year in art, both middle and high school students had plenty of opportunities for growth in their creative abilities. I would also like to send a high five to our amazing RYSS leadership for their support of the arts. Below are some important reminders of the significance of Arts in schools: 1.) The Arts provide a vital economic engine for Texas, and help ensure a successful future for students. 2.) The Arts generate $5.1 Billion for our state’s economy now and prepare students to be key contributors to our economy in the future. 3.) Students who complete more arts classes have up to 15% higher pass rates on standardized tests than students with fewer arts classes. 4.) The Arts contribute nearly $320 million in state sales tax revenue annually. 5.) At-risk high school students who complete more than one art class are half as likely to drop out. 6.) 80% of Texas voters support increased funding for the Arts in schools. Thanks to Ms. Robinson for a great year! RYSS CTE and RYSS Art collaborated to involve high school students in projects that involved technology and art. The purpose of merging ideas and resources was to provide students with real life situations. Students used Adobe Photoshop to encourage their peers via the posters. Reminders
Good luck to all of RYSS on upcoming STAAR tests. Art club meetings are over for the year due to STAAR testing and finals.

Music/Panther Drumline– GRANT AWARD TO MUSIC CLUB Our Texas Future Music Educators Club (TFME) has received a grant from the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). RYSS is acknowledged for participating in high school UIL Band Solo/Ensemble events and qualifying for State competition in the Vocal division. TMEA recognizes the progress RYSS has made in making a viable music program for Junior High vocal students by winning seats in the Region 23 Choir for two consecutive years.

TFME senior member, Ermin Alvarado, has led the Elite Panther Drumline in performances at HCC and various city-wide cultural parades. This will show TEA that our District is accountable to (HB 2804)Community and Student Engagement. Mr. De La Garza, club sponsor, is very grateful to Principal Perez-Silva for the purchase of pianos and guitars to expand the music curriculum and to Blanca Saldana for providing performance venues to our musicians. We are thankful to have Madeline Castilla, CCR/CT Caseworker, for promoting the drumline and advocating fine arts by providing music courses in each of the five endorsements for graduation(HB5). Dedicated Students
CINCO DE MAYO PARADE The Elite Panther Drumline and Dancers will participate in the 21st Annual LULAC Cinco de Mayo Parade on May 7 at 10am.
