"My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?" Today's Gospel parable is unsettling in several ways. The various images of rejection, mistreatment, and violence paint an unpleasant picture. Guests refuse to come to a feast, servants are killed, troops are dispatched. The King continues to try to fill his dinner hall, and then when someone finally does show up, the King throws him out for wearing the wrong clothes. What is going on here?

Inside This Issue ... <
The message would have been a poignant one for his Jewish listeners. As the chosen people, they were the first to receive the "invitation" to share in the kingdom of God. But the chief priests and elders were uninterested in accepting Jesus and his authority; thus they didn't show up for the feast. But what about those who did come? Something is expected of them as well. Donning a "wedding garment" is like being properly prepared to enter God's kingdom. Just showing up isn't enough. (continued on page 3)

From The Center by Deacon Paul Safety First During the September and October Worship Commission meetings, the Commission members discussed safety for the EMEs as they leave the altar and go to their respective places for distributing Communion. Between meetings, I also solicited advice from eight EMEs and then passed that on to Fr. Don for the October meeting. Fr. Don has also discussed this with the Liturgical Assistants and Ministers of Service at last Saturday's meeting with them. The conclusion from these discussions is: For the safety of our various Eucharistic ministers, they will: 1.
receive Communion as usual
2.
follow Fr. Don who will lead them down the ramp west of the altar
3.
go left or right when they get to the wall, depending on where they will be distributing Communion
4.
go to their spots for distributing Communion

Sunday Reflection (continued from page 1) Here it's important to pay attention to the details. The King first calls his poorly dressed guest "friend." The approach begins with mercy and kindness. But the man gives no defense for himself, and displays no desire to change. It's as if he doesn't really care to be there at all. The question this raises for us is whether or not we are "dressed" appropriately. We may hang around the banquet hall — going to church, professing to be Christian — but are we sincere guests of the King of kings? Do we truly accept Christ's teachings and live by them, or are we just showing up? The splendors of the invitation Christ gives us should not be taken for granted. We are called to share in a royal feast. May we all be grateful guests. © 2017 Liturgical Publications Inc

that the souls of those who had died could cross over to our world again. Halloween comes from the word “hallowed” meaning blessed or holy. It is fitting that on the night before All Saints Day, our families remember and celebrate in a special way our belief in the Communion of Saints. Here are some suggestions for activities that can help your family observe the spirit of Halloween and make a connection with our faith: 1.
Your children can research their favorite saint or the saint they’re name after; they can also dress up as their favorite saint for Halloween.
2.
Your children can ask the saints — our spiritual ancestors – to pray for them on their journey to holiness.
3.
At breakfast, recite a short litany of family members who have died; after each name have everyone say, “Pray for us.”
4.
Make a special healthy meal for dinner to offset the abundance of candy. Give each child a paper plate. Put out bowls of olives, cucumbers, radishes, raisins, dried cranberries or apricots, cheese sticks, and cold cuts. Have everyone make faces — scary or funny — on their plates with the food. Then enjoy! (from Loyola Press - A Jesuit Ministry)
3 Everyday Stewardship Art Buchwald, the longtim e humorist for the “Washington Post” who died in 2007 is credited with saying, "The best things in life aren't things." As Christians, we know this statement to be true. Certainly the best things in our lives are not those items that money can buy or things we can create in the material world. Faith, hope, and love are more precious than anything we can see with our eyes. Yet, as humans we often find ourselves longing (continued on page 7)

Questions of the Week
Everyday Stewardship (continued from page 4) for the very things that we claim are not nearly as valuable. We lose sight of what is real and true. Paul wrote in the fourth chapter of his Letter to the Philippians that he has experienced both living with abundance and then with very little. Regardless of what we have in term s of worldly goods, Paul reminds us that God provides for all our needs. G od may not provide for our wants, but he does give us what we need. The flesh seeks what it wants, but the spirit seeks what it needs. In a stewardship way of life, we must always remind ourselves that true wealth never comes from material possessions and money. True wealth comes from the love we share, the faith we develop, and the hope we bring to others. The best things in life aren't free, though. They require work, commitment, and fortitude. We need to cultivate these things daily. If we are serious about living life in this way, we will find that when our days on this earth are through, we really had it all.
M atthew 22:1-14 or 22:1-10 Jesus' parable of the w edding feast ends in a startling way. How do you know if you are properly dressed for the w edding feast (the return of Christ)? Isaiah 25:6-10a Seven hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Isaiah foreshadow s the m essianic age to com e w ith lush im agery. W hat does this im agery reveal to you about God's nature? Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20 Paul inform s the Philippians he has learned the secret of living well under any circum stance: find strength in Christ. How is this true in your life?

World Mission Sunday Collection
Gather a Bountiful Harvest for the Parish and for Yourself!
2017 Advent Season Planning Saturday, October 21, 9 am - 12:15 pm in the Rainbow Room Come harvest bountiful nourishment for your body, heart, mind, and soul and for your church family!
This weekend we take up the World Mission Sunday collection. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. This year, we are invited to "Chat With The Pope" to learn more about his missions. Scan this year's World Mission Sunday poster using Facebook Messenger for your mobile device or learn more at www.ChatWithThePope.org.
You’ll enjoy a continental breakfast served at 9 am — the music of the Advent season will engage your spirit — you’ll learn what the Church teaches, suggests, and encourages for Advent — you’ll read and ponder the message of the Advent scriptures — and you’ll help create a focus for our Advent celebrations with ideas that will spiritually nourish the Corpus Christi faith family during Advent.
No experience necessary. No fee. No pre-registration. Just come!
You Are Invited! Rainbow Room "Stock the Kitchen" Shower Sunday, October 29, 2017 after the 9 am and 11 am Masses Pots and pans ... bowls and dishes ... Let's shower the Rainbow Room with our kitchen wishes! Tags from the gift registry are available in the back of church. Simply choose a tag; purchase the specific item OR donate the cost of the item (envelope provided); and bring the gift or your envelope to the shower on the 29th. If you cannot attend the shower, you can drop off your item or envelope in the back of church. The registry tag will specify a particular style or brand for each item. Please purchase the item as described on the registry tag. This will help avoid duplications and provide sturdy, high quality items that will last.
The “Stock The Kitchen Shower” with special free refreshments is hosted by the Women’s Society and the Rainbow Room Improvement Committee.

Many sponsorship levels are available and a gift of any amount in support of this sacred celebration is deeply appreciated. Share The Sweetness! What could be an easier or more welcome addition to a meal than a cookie, cupcake, or brownie? The Corpus Christi family is being given an opportunity to serve the hungry women, children, men, and seniors who eat at the St. Christine Soup Kitchen. We have been asked to provide something sweet for the meal on Tuesday, October 31st. The Kitchen serves approximately 300 people on Tuesdays. Dessert for 300 should be easy, right? Sign up at the back of church or call the parish office at 313-537-5770 to let us know if you can bring cookies, brownies, or cupcakes to one of the Masses on the weekend of October 28/29th. We'll have a cart in the back of church for your donations --- or you can drop them off at the parish office on Monday, October 30th. Not a baker, or can't make it to the store? Cash donations are always welcome! We have also been asked to provide 4 volunteers to help serve the meal on October 31st. Volunteers would need to be at the Kitchen located at 22261 Fenkell, Detroit (south side of Fenkell, a few blocks west of Lahser) from 2 to 4 pm. Sign up at the back of church. For more information, call Mary Davis at 313-506-7049. Thank you in advance for being Christ's light in our little corner of the world!
