This Sunday we have the call of the prophet Isaiah and of St. Peter to be sent in the name of God. Both of them underwent a period of conversion since Isaiah says: “I am doomed for I am a man of unclean lips” and then St. Peter says: “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man”. Both Isaiah and St. Peter recognize their sinfulness, their unworthiness to be messengers of God, yet God chooses them because he will forgive their sins so that they may proclaim this love and mercy from the Father. What a loving and merciful heart of God! God touched the lips of Isaiah to speak his word and mul plied the fish for St. Peter. St. Peter also says: “We have worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets”. St. Peter explains to us that it was God who caught all that fish for them. St. Peter obeyed the divine words of Jesus since, humanly speaking, they were exhausted with the frustrated fishing the whole night. Isaiah and St. Peter welcomed the mercy of God in their lives and this transformed them into disciples of God. Isaiah and St. Peter portray for us the Chris an path to follow. Whenever we may feel sinful, weak, dirty, or unworthy of the Lord because of our sins, it is there that God comes to save us with his love and mercy. God sends us to proclaim this same love and mercy to others. We may not be worthy of this mission, but he forgives our sins and gives us His Spirit to catch some men in the nets and boat, which is our holy mother Catholic Church. Let us confess then our unworthiness so that God may touch our hearts and send us to spread the Kingdom of God.

Dear Brothers & Sisters, This week we will have our confirma on retreat with the youth of St. Rose. I remember when I did my confirma on retreat, I had this urge to follow the Lord radically, but the world of friends, career, studies, and love with a girlfriend also called me strongly for another kind of life. I felt comfortable with being with friends and girls, but I felt God was calling me to follow Him and that He would give me the life of joy that I was looking for. Today, seventeen years a er my confirma on, I can say from my heart that following God through his Church, I found my friends and joys in God. I realize that I gave up some human plans I had, yet God gave me back a hundred mes more with true brothers and sisters, authen c joys in the ministry witnessing the repentance of sinners, celebra ng the Eucharist, and many other joys in the Church. I can say that God never took away anything from me, on the contrary, He gave me everything my heart was longing for. I hope our youth may experience also this along their lives a er their confirma on. In Christ,
Father Oscar
