FROM THE PASTOR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN After the 2004 flood which destroyed both St. Luke Church and Holy Souls Church, then-pastor Fr. Joe Luisi discerned that the parish needed to consider a long term strategy for the use of her properties. He launched a capital campaign to fund the consolidation of operations to one site. By 2010, the parish received diocesan authorization to proceed with the plan to rebuild at the site of the former St. Luke Church. I extended the capital campaign through December 31, 2015, and received permission to collect up to $1,500,000 for this purpose, free from any diocesan assessment. (The parish capital campaign is distinct from the diocesan capital campaign, Our Campaign for The Church Alive!, in which SEAS Parish began to participate during 2014.) During the extension, the parish collected $1,465,248—very close to the original goal. I am grateful for your generosity and hard work, thanks to which we now enjoy the new St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and parish center that should last us for years to come. The parish still labors under a building debt of about $2,250,000. That’s a larger debt than I hoped to face at this point—largely due to unexpected difficulties in selling surplus property. You can help by sustaining or increasing your gifts to the Parish Share Program (PSP). Because PSP monies are earmarked to pay diocesan assessments on the parish, they are received by the parish without any additional diocesan assessment—and are therefore the most efficient and effective way of contributing to the financial welfare of the parish.
St. Anthony Program & De Paul School aid children with special needs. The St. Anthony Program “mainstreams” children with Down Syndrome, autism, or cognitive learning challenges—an extraordinary learning experience for the client children and also for their peers, who learn about caring and overcoming challenges. The De Paul School for Hearing and Speech teaches speaking-listening skills (no sign language) to deaf or hearing-impaired children, enabling them to accompany their peers of typical hearing ability at neighborhood schools. SEAS parishioner Carol Riley is on the board of the De Paul School; parishioner Jonathan Glance is on the board of the St. Anthony Program. Next week, we take up a 2nd collection for these two causes. Your gifts also benefit SEAS Parish, because they are counted toward our annual Parish Share assessment from the Diocese.
Parish Statistics are now available for 2015. In addition to the table below, Fr. Robin and I provided the Anointing of the Sick at least 383 times to the faithful. SEAS EVANGELIZES
We're coming down the final stretch on Cotter's wonderful list of "10 Things Pope Francis Wants You To Know About Evangelization"! Evangelizers Love People Evangelizers thus take on the “smell of the sheep” and the sheep are willing to hear their voice. An evangelizing community is also supportive, standing by people at every step of the way, no matter how difficult or lengthy this may prove to be. It is familiar with patient expectation and apostolic endurance. —Evangelii Gaudium Let's face it...we all need support some of the time, because life is not always easy, and, in fact, can be very tough. Whether you are in a season of needing someone to stand by you, or in a season of strength, your involvement in a good Christian community can make a world of difference for you and for those affected by or influenced by you. We are very blessed here at SEAS with a pastor who is helping us to be the strong evangelizing community that Pope Francis - and Christ - call us to be! Stay tuned in...listen to all that's going on, in the world, in the Church, and in our parish ... and realize that what the world so desperately needs, we have! Be sure you are taking an active part in living out the message of Christ's love.

St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School for Hearing & Speech
January 16 & 17 As a parish, we are blessed with the opportunity to shape and develop the lives of children with special needs. By participating in the annual Diocesan Collection to benefit St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School for Hearing and Speech, you help create remarkable opportunities for the children they serve. In addition to supporting children with special needs, your kind donation counts toward your Parish Share Assessment. St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School for Hearing and Speech warmly thank you for your continued support of their missions. See more information in the Pastor’s Page.
HELP! PRIZES NEEDED! The children of the Parish will be participating in a Pro-Life Event on January 22 (the anniversary of Roe v. Wade). This educational evening will include prayer, videos, and stories. Afterwards, the children are invited to “celebrate life” at an indoor carnival! This is a free event! The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the majority of the evening, but help is needed! We need carnival-like prizes for our games! Prizes should be new and unopened. Please help us! The dollar stores are a great place to shop, or seek out items on the clearance shelves! We have children from pre-school age to teens who will be participating in the event! Take donated items to Holy Family Hall next Sunday! 6
