WELCOME TO CLEVE BLOOR As you are aware, I will be away overseas for all of next term as part of my Travelling Fellowship. I would like to welcome Mr Cleve Bloor who will be acting in my position for Term 2. Cleve has very recently retired from Maunu School and brings a huge amount of experience with him to Ruakaka School. Over the next few days I will continue to meet with Cleve to inform him as much as I can about our school and your children. Please feel free to come and introduce yourselves to him. It is great to know I can go away and leave the school in such capable hands and I know that with Cleve and such an awesome staff, things will just tick along as usual. I can’t wait to share all my adventures with you when I return in Term 3. POWHIRI As we will be welcoming Mr Bloor to the school, we will be holding a powhiri on the first Monday of the term at 9.00am to welcome him and all the new families to our school since the 1st February. You are all most welcome to attend. EASTER RAFFLE The school support have created 19 baskets from all of our donated goods!!! Have you sold all your raffle tickets yet? Have you returned your tickets and money to the office? These need to be handed in by Tuesday 11th April at the latest. BILINGUAL CAMP AND NOTICES Camp fees are due by Tuesday 11th April. If you are unable to meet this deadline, please contact Marilyn or Ramari to discuss options. Don’t forget iceblock day this Friday 7th April at 12.30. Bring along $1 for an iceblock. Money will go towards our camp. There will be NO stall at the Te Taitokerau Kapa Haka Festival for our bilingual classes now, due to a lack of support.
WACKY HAIR DAY We are holding Wacky Hair Day on Thursday 13th April. . This day is to support the Emergency Helicopter appeal and children are asked to bring along a gold coin donation. If your child brings a gold coin donation to the office they will receive an sticker! It is a very worthy cause and such a fun day for children and staff alike. Get creative! See how wacky you can go. SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP MEETING There is a School Support Group meeting in the staff room at 1:30pm on Tuesday the 11th April 2017. We are making and spending large amounts of money and would like a new committee to help with both of these. Over the past few years the Support Group has had a fairly informal structure that has worked pretty well but as our school roll increases, new parents come on board and our bank account grows, we have decided now is the time to formalise the structure. We are looking to fill both Chairperson or Secretary positions so there is also an opportunity to put your name forward for either of these. The treasurer position is filled by Janet Pram who is doing a fantastic job. BILINGUAL RAFFLE The bilingual raffle was drawn and the lucky winners are listed below: 1st Prize: Sharon Ashby 2nd Prize: Allison Ripia 3rd Prize: Amy Abernethy Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. TIGER WORMS We are looking for some tiger worms to restock our worm farm as our worms have all died. If you have some that you could donate to us, we would really appreciate it, please contact the office or Dennis. BEE KEEPING AT SCHOOL Some Room 8 children experienced beekeeping with Mrs Hay and Aaron last week at the school beehive. They were very lucky to find the Queen Bee who was WORLD OF WEARABLE marked with gold paint on the top of her head (like a crown) ART The hive was re-queened and re-stocked in February as the previous bees had swarmed in December. A big thank you goes to North Pine who sponsored the cost of this and to Happy Beekeeping of Waipu who supplied the bees, and to Mark Laybourne of Kamo, for supplying the Queen bee.
