Lady Panthers Are Co-District Champs! For only the second time in school history the Lady Panther softball team are Co-District Champs! The Lady Panthers defeated unbeaten Hardin in District play last April 11 by 8-3 to even records at 3-1 in District. Bethany Brown started the game off with a bang by striking out six batters in the first three innings, making a statement that the Lady Panthers were determined. In the bottom of the 4th, Hardin scored three runs on two hits, but not to be discouraged, Kathryn Sherman had an RBI single in the 5th to get the Lady Panthers on the board. Hardin threatened to score when she reached on an error in the 5th but Eliza Catchings retrieved the ball and threw the runner out at 2 nd base. In the top of the 6th, Brown reached on an error, Megan Majors had a single, Ashley Gates had a single, Sabrina Trahan had a RBI single, and Maegan Oler hit a two-run double for the go-ahead run and the Lady Panthers were back in the game leading by a 4-3 score. The LP defense kept playing tough, holding off Hardin again and then scoring four more runs in the 7th in the same fashion. Majors singled again, Ashley Gates singled, and Trahan reached on an error. Cammie Bertrand had an RBI single, and then Trahan stole home to score again. The game ended when Hardin flied out to Landry in left and popped up to Eliza Catchings at first. Brown was superb on the mound and finished with a season high nine strike-outs.
In the tie-breaker game for District Championship and #1 playoff seed from District 25-2A, Anahuac jumped out to an early lead on Hardin and captured a 13-5 victory. This is the first time for an Anahuac team to win District in a tie breaker. The only other time they have claimed District CoChampions was in 2008, but that year’s team lost to Warren in the tie-breaker. The Lady Panthers finished with a 3-1 record in 25-2A and as District Champions. They are 11-7 on the season.

AES Students Race to the Finish Line During Field Day Anahuac Elementary School held annual Field Day events on April 28 and 29. Students had a wonderful time competing in traditional events, such as a sack race and an obstacle course. AES PE teacher Philip Partlow and his assistant Cristina Tobias planned the activities and had students practice in PE classes. “We appreciate all parent volunteers who assisted with awards and all families who attended AES Field Day,” said AES Principal Tetyana Yeromenko.
First Year Aerospace Students Experience Rockets 2014 Nineteen students from the first year Aerospace class traveled to Lake Jackson to launch their rockets over Mother’s Day Weekend during “Rockets 14.” The students were divided at the beginning of the semester into two rocket groups, each having a different mission objective. One group was to build a rocket that would carry a one-pound payload to one mile in altitude and safely recover. The other group was to build a rocket that would travel transonic, breaking the sound barrier. Both groups researched, presented, designed and built their rockets. Each rocket had specific design criteria, since the scope of each team’s project was different. The one-pound, one-mile rocket team members almost achieved their goal of one mile in altitude. With the wind being a factor, the rocket was pushed a little off of vertical and achieved an altitude of almost 4,900 ft. The rocket was recovered intact and with a little repair, could have flown again. The Transonic group achieved their goal of breaking the sound barrier. They achieved mach 1 (760 mph) in less than three seconds of flight. However, once again the laws of physics prevented a picture perfect recovery. Unlike the year prior, the students accounted for the pressure of the shock wave breaking the speed of sound and did not shred their body tube. However, the nosecone was pushed into the body tube slightly, preventing the nosecone from deploying properly. There was partial deployment which allowed for the rocket to land safely. As another year closes on the Anahuac Aerospace class, the students have grown as problem solvers. They discovered they have the ability to solve problems they believed to be outside of their abilities. “The juniors will take this knowledge and start working on their attempt at 100,000 feet at White Sands Missile Range in the summer of 2015,” said instructor Kirk Moore. “The seniors will go out into the world to become the next generation of problem solvers.”
