Preparation for work and independence (up to 3 years)
This is a flexible study programme to help you develop independence and confidence before you move on to other courses in college. You may have done GCSEs, ASDAN or BTEC at school and had help from learning support. You are likely to have an EHCP. You will study a vocational subject, maths, English, work skills and life skills and do work experience. You are expected to stay on this programme for one year. This will be reviewed in the summer term.
This is a flexible study programme with support needs. You may have gone to a mainstream or special school. You will have an EHCP. You will study a vocational subject, maths, English, work skills and life skills and do work experience. When you leave you may move on to a supported internship, supported employment/ employment and/ or supported/independent living. You will usually stay on this programme for two or three years. This will be reviewed every year.
What you will do at college There will be lots of new things to learn. We will help you make choices about what to do next. There will always be staff around to support you, but they will encourage you to do as much as you can on your own. This will include learning to cook healthy meals, using your own money and finding out more about our local area. We can help you choose which subjects will be best for you. Work experience
You will also get to see what life is like in the workplace. You will have a real working experience. You can tell us what jobs you would like to try.
This is how we’ll help you do it Our tutors and support staff know the best way to help you. They can help you get the qualifications to move on to other courses, or find out about supported work or living in the community. You can enjoy being in college knowing that you will have the help you need, when you need it.
It’s not all work You will help plan our trips out and events in college, including RAG week (Raising money for charity).

This is how we’ll help you move on During the course you will learn new skills that will help you decide what you want to do after you leave college. After the course has finished you will have lots of options open to you: • • •

You can join the main college for a Level 1 or Level 2 course You can get careers advice from Adviza You can have support to find work through local supported employment agencies such as Breakthrough or Opatlis You may want to talk to people to find out about living in the community with other young people
Moving on Our students have progressed on to other courses and supported employment, voluntary work and supported internships.
I went to work.
I used to come to the Landshare with college. It showed me that I really like working outdoors. Now I volunteer here three days a week. I really like it.

Foundation helped us to settle into college and now we are doing Level 2 Hospitality. We both want to work in the hospitality industry when we leave college. I started a supported internship.
