PLAN AHEAD: America’s Safe Schools Week is October (October 21-27)
Act i vi t y Id e as PLAN AND CONDUCT ACTIVITIES For Start with Hello Week (September 24-28)! Get your free planning guides, power point and more! CREATE POSTERS OR CHALK ART of peace quotes and display around campus for International Day of Peace on September 21. TOILET TALK Create a list of mental health resources in your community and hang it on the back of the doors of the bathroom stalls. GREEN OUT Everyone wear green on the Monday of each week of the month and remember to Start With Hello! BREAK THE CHAIN Start at the beginning of the month and have the chains grow to the end of the month. At the end of the month, break the insecurity chain, hang the kindness chain in a common area to remind students that others care. REACH OUT WITH START WITH HELLO Visit other schools, youth organizations, or local library and present Start With Hello presentation. Be sure to use an icebreaker from Start With Hello!

Bullying Prevention Month Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Act i vi t y Id e as SCHOOL SAFETY TIPS Create a poster with school safety tip sheet from your SAVE Promise Club. SHARE THE EVAN VIDEO from SHP’s YouTube channel. Place fact cards about warning signs from the video around the school. ADOPT A SAVE MEMBER Ask older students to “adopt” younger students in their school – have them serve as their “buddy” throughout the school year. UNITY TREE Create a Unity Tree to represent your SAVE team! DO SOMETHING NICE DAY On October 5, challenge all students to perform a random act of kindness. Post on social media. #DoSomethingNice TAILGATE PARTY Host one before a football game and share info on your SAVE Promise Club – post pictures. #TeamSAVE TRUNK OR TREAT Host in the school/community parking lot. Runaway Prevention Month
Act i vi t y Id e as SOS PROGRAM Ask your school to bring in Sandy Hook Promise’s Signs of Suicide Program. EDUCATE YOUTH TO ACT When they see signs of someone intending to harm themselves: (Acknowledge the problem, Care— let the person know you care, Tell a trusted adult). THANKS AND GIVING Encourage everyone to share messages of gratitude to one another. WORLD HELLO DAY On November 21st, say hello in as many languages as possible during announcements, before school, or challenge to teachers in each class. TRUSTED ADULT HALL OF FAME Make a wall in school with teacher pictures, names, bios, and room numbers so students know who can help them. CREATE A RESOURCE SHEET with local and national resources (800-273-8255 AKA 800-273-TALK). WHO WOULD YOU HELP” BANNER Make a poster that says “if _____ was in need of help, I would say something” and have sticky notes to fill in who they would help and put it on the poster. WORLD KINDNESS DAY cards/activities: Write compliments or kind words on sticky notes and post in bathrooms or halls.

Act i vi t y Id e as NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION Create a SAVE Promise Club resolution to Say Something or Start with Hello in the New Year. Share at #ResolutionToSAVE. WHY I “START WITH HELLO” Review this with SAVE Members (SWH Educator Guide). WALL OF KINDNESS Create a wall of positive messages for students. Ask students to add to the wall. MENTAL WELLNESS CARDS Create with tips and resources and pass out each week. HOST A SMILE DAY Students caught encouraging others to smile will get smiley stickers! INVITE SPEAKERS Law enforcement, first responders, and health care professionals to share first-hand about the importance of Say Something for students. WHAT’S IN A NAME? Act i vi t y Id e as KNOW ABOUT ABUSE Invite representative from your local domestic violence shelter to visit and discuss healthy relationships. Ask her to cover all types of abuse, not just physical. CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE WEEK Honor students who have exhibited the positive trait. “I CAN BE ME” POSTERS Visit elementary students and discuss the importance of positive character traits and help them create posters with character traits they want to have. THE TRUTH ABOUT HATE Host a round table discussion that is a safe place where students can share their experience of going through discrimination. TURN YOUR SCHOOL GREEN DAY On March 15th, have people wear green, decorate the town and school and get more people aware of Sandy Hook Promise. FOOD4FRIENDS FOOD DRIVE Food drive for unfortunate in spring because they don’t receive much during that time versus during the holiday. Post pictures with #Food4Friends. Act i vi t y Id e as PROMISE 2 REACH OUT Conduct Start With Hello activities with special needs students at your school or younger schools. PROMISE 2 SELFIE CHALLENGE Have students take selfies holding a sheet of paper saying what they “Promise 2.” Post the photos on social media using the hashtag #Promise2. PROMISE 2 START WITH HELLO CHALLENGE Ask students say “hello” to 20 people they do not know in honor of the 20 children lost at Sandy Hook Elementary. PROMISE 2 BE KIND CHALLENGE Perform 6 acts of random kindness or pass out 6 kindness notes in honor of the 6 adults lost at Sandy Hook Elementary. SAFETY BOOTH Set up a booth to talk safety tips at local carnivals or community events. WATER SAFETY CLASSES Partner with the Red Cross to bring water safety and CPR classes to those in your school or community.
