PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Assured Truth
"Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life." John 5:24 It is hard to believe that as of yesterday we are now in our second full month of school. The air is crisp, the trees are changing colors, and the "Lifetime Movie Channel" is getting ready to start playing Christmas themed movies around the clock! As we change months of the school year we too change the Biblical theme for the month. This month's theme connected to the overall brand of "We Teach Truth" is the idea of Assured Truth. To be assured of something is to know it to be true or factual, certain, sure, reliable, dependable, and/ or sound. As Wisconsinites, we can be assured that it is going to get cold and snowy fairly soon. As Packer fans, we can be assured that as long as Aaron Rodgers is healthy and on the field, our team is likely to win a lot more games this year! Far more seriously, as American citizens, we can also be assured that mass shootings at schools, malls, movie theaters, etc. by sick individuals like the recent events at Oregon's Umpqua Community College will occur no matter how strict the screenings, checks, waiting periods, and/ or penalties become. Please keep all of those affected by yesterday's disgusting tragedy in your prayers. And, if the earliest reports are true that the gunman was motivated in part by a desire to harm Christians, may we all as believers pray all the more for peace, protection, and confidence in this lifetime as we see yet another example of how evil is being put upon people of faith. The most blessed assurance we have as bold and unapologetic people of faith in Christ is found In the John 5 passage offered above. "Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life." Said another way, be assured that by hearing and believing The Word, salvation is ours. Be assured that in the events, challenges, pain, and sufferings of this lifetime there is hope. Be assured that the faith and salvation poured into our hearts in baptism and sustained by Word and Sacrament living is
eternally sure, reliable, dependable, and sound. Not even the greatest of challenge and tragedy can ever take that away! May our prayers to our Father be answered for comfort, health, and recovery for the victims in Oregon, healing and peace for folks struggling in mental health concerns of all kinds, and renewed and certain peace, hope, and courage for us as the hands and feet of the Church whose message of forgiveness and confidence in Jesus is all the more powerful in times of challenge such as these. Amen!
