PAP Algebra 2, PAP /Pre-Calc., & AP Calculus AB CLASSROOM POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Mrs. Hargis: RM 308 Dear Parents/Guardians and Students, Welcome to a new year at Lake Dallas High School. I am looking forward to a great learning experience! This letter is to inform you of the policies and procedures of my classroom.
Expectations for AP/Pre-AP Math Course Work Students must be dedicated to complete a more rigorous course of study. The keys to success are maturity, motivation, self-discipline, and academic preparation. To be successful in an AP/Pre-AP math courses, students are encouraged to acquire deep understandings, to apply comprehensive analytical techniques, and to become self learners. The main advantage is in providing an academic background that will better prepare students for college.1

Pencils (All work not done in pencil will receive a zero.) Calculator – for use at home (please, if you should own one.) All necessary textbook(s): ALL TEXTBOOKS MUST BE COVERED
HOMEWORK/LESSON ASSISTANCE I will be available for extra help on Tuesday/Friday mornings from 8-8:25 a.m. and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-3:55 p.m. Falcon Library runs Monday, Tuesday (2nd SPRING SEMESTER) and Thursday after school from 4:00-6:30 p.m. I strongly suggest attending if you have been absent or you are struggling with a concept. In order for me to best assist you, you must arrive with specific questions. I will not provide assistance on test days.

LDHS 2010-2011 Planning and Course Description Guide
GRADING 1. Homework/Homework Quizzes – will be given daily. All work must be done in pencil, and have all work shown to receive credit. Please refer to page 71 of the LDHS Student Handbook pertaining to late work. Extenuating circumstances will always be considered. a. Incomplete homework will result in a mandatory tutorial the following day. Homework must be complete upon arrival. 2. Quizzes/Pop Quizzes–will be given throughout each grading period. 3. Tests –will be given periodically during each grading period. 4. Periodically Advanced Drop grades (Minor Grades Only) may occur at the end of a grading period. This is a privilege, not mandatory. Therefore, zero(s) for daily grades means forfeiture of this privilege. Students shall receive numerical scores in all subjects. Teachers of core subjects, foreign languages, and most career technology courses will use at least 8 minor and 3 major grades per grading period. All other courses including AP and Pre-AP courses are exempt from this requirement. The grading period average will be computed using the following formula:
Grading Period Averages: Formula 50% Minor Grades 50% Major Grades
ATTENDANCE 1. All tardies will be unexcused unless you have a note from another teacher or a principal. Consequences for Tardies: 1 Tardy = Free pass
6 Tardies = 2 Day of Principal
2 Tardies = Teacher Detention/Parent Contact
detention 8 Tardies = 1 Day of ISS
4 Tardies = 1 Day of Principal detention
10 Tardies = 2 Day of ISS 12 + Tardies = DAEP Placement
Repeated instances of tardiness will result in more severe disciplinary action, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Please refer to pages 74-75 of the LDHS Student Handbook
2. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. 3. When a student has an excused absence, the student has one day of class for each day missed to make up the work.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY Lake Dallas High School Academic Integrity Policy (Please refer to pages 66-70 of the LDHS Student Handbook). I will adhere very closely with this new policy.
DISCIPLINE 1. Be in your desk and ready to begin when the bell rings. Otherwise, you are tardy. 2. Do not talk or leave your desk while I am talking or another student is asking a question. Show respect to others by being attentive. 3. I enjoy open forum discussions and expect everyone to participate. 4. Remain in your desk working on your assignment until the bell rings. a. The teacher will dismiss you, not the bell.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION 1. Notes should be taken daily. 2. Do not bring food in the classroom. You may bring water to drink if it has a top. 3. The Hall Pass needs to be filled out completely before you leave the classroom and checked in by me upon your return. 4. Please do not use items on my desk. You need to use the supplies in the student area. I do not let students borrow pencils. Please bring your own supplies. 5. Absolutely no headphones, IPODS/MP3 devices, phones, gaming systems, etc… during classroom time. These items will be confiscated. Please refer to page 23 of the LDHS Student Handbook for further information.
