Mrs. Seth and Mrs. Perren After a whirlwind tour of all kinds of math in Math 7, we are about to narrow our focus and zero in on the skills we will need to have access to and success in our high school math classes! ON YOUR MARK! Supplies: Spiral notebook (approx. 200 pages)
2 Sharpened pencils
College ruled filler paper
Self-contained pencil sharpener
Graph paper (5 sheets on hand)
Ink pen/colored pencil (not black)
White lined 3 x 5 index cards (10 on hand) Highlighter Math section in binder or math folder
White board marker
Binder Reminder
Ruler
Optional: a mechanical pencil may be used instead of a pencil and the self-contained pencil sharpener, but you still must have two and you must have a supply of extra lead. Supplies are due in class on Tuesday, September 4th. A quiz grade will be taken.
GET SET! Know what is expected Homework: assigned most days, it is due the very next time we meet. No late work will be accepted so discipline yourself to get it done on time every time, right from the start! To assess your homework, you be may given a homework quiz, you may be asked to copy out two or three problems onto an index card, you may be asked to grade your own paper, or your homework may be collected for grading. You will be given two late homework passes at the beginning of each semester. Each pass will allow a homework to be graded as though it were turned in on time. The pass must be stapled to the late work and placed in the LATE WORK basket the very next day (that’s right, one day late, but no more than one!). Late passes that are not used will turn into extra credit on the semester final. Missing work due to an excused absence will be given full credit, but it must be turned in according to the “number of days out, same number of days late” rule. Write "ABSENT" at the top of your paper and place it in the ABSENT WORK basket on its new due date. No other credit will be given for late work. Semester grade: Homework: 30%, Quizzes: 15%, Assessments: 55%. Extra credit will be given on each test, but will not be given apart from a test. That means that if you find your grade dropping, you will need to work harder on your homework and on your test preparations to recover your grade because no extra credit assignment or project will be given to bail you out! The school wide grading scale will be used (90-100% = A, 80-89.99% = B, 70-79.99% = C, 60-69.99% = D, anything less than 60% = F). Grades will not be rounded.
Behavior: School wide rules
In seat by end of tardy bell; for the third and every subsequent unexcused tardy in a semester a detention will be issued
No cell phone usage during school hours; cell phones on vibrate. First infraction: phone turned in to office to be picked up after school that day; second infraction: phone turned in to office to be picked up by a parent; third infraction: phone turned in to office to be picked up by a parent, detention assigned.
No gum, food, or drinks in class (bottled plain water is the exception)
Detention will be given for every third homework assignment that is missing within a semester.
Classroom rules
Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak or to get out of your seat
Be respectful in you language and actions
Follow directions, first time, every time
Misbehavior will be dealt with. A warning may be given, but phone calls home, detentions and trips to the office may also ensue. Disruptive or defiant behavior will not be tolerated. Cheating: Any copying whether in homework or on tests will receive a zero, detention will be assigned, the parent called, and the citizenship grade dropped, and an entry will be made into your school record.. Anyone knowingly allowing another to copy his/her work will receive the same consequences.
