Teacher Appreciation Week – May 2 - 6 Teacher Appreciation Week is next week! The PTA Hospitality Committee has several things planned for the week, including a 'candy bar', a 'traveling sundae bar', and a Mexican-themed lunch on Cinco de Mayo! Thank you to those individuals that have signed up to bring something in next week to help us make all of these events possible! Additionally, we are still collecting $5 gift cards until Thursday, May 5 to raffle off to every staff member on Friday. Thank you to the families that have already sent some in! We have collected 36 gift cards thus far. If you would still like to donate a gift card for the staff, please send the card(s) to the front office in a sealed envelope and label it "Teacher Appreciation - Tanya Murphy". Thank you very much for helping to make this a special week for the staff at Meads Mill! PTA Information for 8th Grade Parents Dear Families of the incoming Freshman class of 2020, The Northville High School PTA is very much looking forward to you joining us this coming school year. To get to know us and the administrators at NHS, please join us at our PTA General Membership meeting Friday, May 13 at 9 am in the Northville High School media center (located on the second floor). Light refreshments will be served. This will provide an opportunity for parents to meet the executive board, learn about the NHS PTA, meet the principal and other administrative staff of NHS, and learn a bit more about what is happening at NHS! Congratulations to our Academic Games Teams! Congratulations to our Academic Games teams that traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, on April 22 – 25 to compete in the 51st national AGLOA tournament. The students participated in 6 different games related to math, language arts, logic, and social studies, against 200-300 other students in their age division. The competition was intense with some playoffs lasting into late evenings, but the kids had great fun competing, and some even formed friendships with players from other schools. Three 6th graders, Keerthana D., Arya G., and Akshaya K. (teamed with 7 Hillside students) are the national champions in 3 games - Equations, OnSets, and Wff n' Proof! They also won 2nd place in LinguiSHTIK , and they came in 2nd in the overall team performance in the elementary division. Our 7th - 8th grade team was among the top five teams in five games they played. They also won 2nd place in the overall team performance in the middle division. They are: Abhinav A., George F., Varun G., Pranav J., Andy J., Min Heong L., Ahmad R., Hana R., Vaishvi S., Aarti S., and Oliver W. Meads Mill volunteer coach Yang Yang received the Outstanding Educator Award this year! She spent at least 4 hours a week working with kids for the past 6 years. Her teams have won many state and national titles. She is also well respected by parents and other coaches and definitely deserves the recognition! The students worked hard this past year, and we are so proud of their accomplishments. Great job, everyone!
