CALL FOR ALTARS 2017 The Loveland Museum and the Loveland Public Library, in cooperation with Loveland LULAC, are looking for eight individuals or groups from Loveland and the surrounding Front Range area to create and display an altar for our Day of the Dead exhibition, October 14 – November 5, 2017. This is an opportunity to pay homage to deceased loved ones (adults and children) – family, friends or ancestors – by creating a personal altar that will be displayed at either the Loveland Museum or the Loveland Public Library.
Submit your altar application no later than 5 pm on Friday, September 29 Altar space will be awarded to the top eight applications. Your altar narrative (see below) must be submitted with this form in order for it to be considered. We hope to host eight altars, both traditional and nontraditional, built by a mixture of individuals, families, artists, and groups. Applications chosen to create their proposed alter will be notified by October 6th. Please submit narratives in an electronic Word document. The Loveland Museum reserves the right to edit copy.

SETTING UP YOUR ALTAR At the Loveland Museum or Loveland Public Library
The actual set up of the altars will take place Monday, October 9 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Please circle on the form the day and time you will set up your altar. You must submit the form, narrative and design by Friday, September 29, to be considered for a space. Altar space will be awarded to eight applicants. Successful applicants will be notified on October 6.
The Museum, Loveland Public Library and Loveland LULAC will provide: A space with one 6 to 8 foot table for you to set up your altar on. No electric outlets are available. The Museum, Library or Loveland LULAC cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged items. We ask you to bring: Personal items for your altar Sturdy boxes and shelves to create multiple levels/tiers Cloth to cover your altar structure Items you may want to put on your altar including: photographs, objects of personal significance, sugar skulls, unopened bottled or canned drinks, skeletons, artificial food, artificial flowers, cultural decorations, toys, unlit incense, art, etc. Note: No real food, alcohol, fresh flowers, or lit candles are allowed in the spaces. Altar Display Dates: The altars will be on public display Saturday, October 14, through Sunday, November 5, 2017. Take Down: Altars MUST BE TAKEN DOWN Monday, November 7, between 9 am and 5 pm. After 5 pm altars and any items left behind will be removed. Please note: altars cannot be taken down before November 7 as we want our visitors to enjoy them through November 6. Questions?
