Immune System Project For this project, you will choose a disease/virus/infection and write/present about ways your body can fight this disease/virus/infection. You will write/talk about this interaction as if you were reporting a battle in war. Here are my recommended steps for this project: 1. Choose a disease/virus/infection
2. Write a few paragraphs about: a. How can you catch/get the disease? b. What happens to you when you get the disease? c. Who can be affected by it? d. What are the symptoms? e. How common is it? f.
How dangerous is it?
g. Is it contagious? h. Other things about the disease
3. Write a few paragraphs about: a. What does your body do to try and stop the disease/virus/infection? b. Are there any medicines that can help you? c. How long does it take to get better? d. How likely is it for the disease to win the battle or for the body to win the battle?
4. Write a news article about the “battle”. Do this first so that your radio and news broadcast will be about the article you write. Make sure to use words that would describe a battle. This article should be at least five paragraphs. a. Introduction b. At least three paragraphs with details about: i. How did the disease enter the battle field? ii. Was the body ready for it? iii. What were some major battles? iv. How did your body knew that there were invaders? v. How did your body try and stop them? vi. Did your body receive any help? vii. How is the battle going? Is it over? Who won? viii. How will your body prepare so that this type of battle never happens again? c. Conclusion
5. Prepare a news broadcast like one on TV. This needs to be in a video format. Dress up like a newscaster at a desk and deliver a short, 1 – 1:30 minute long news segment. This should be much less detailed than the news article. Deliver the broadcast of the battle as if you were on television.
6. Prepare a radio broadcast like one you would hear on the radio. This needs to be in an audio format. Use phrases such as, “This just in - , “ or, “reporting from the neck –,“. This will be the least detailed part of your project. You want to say only the most important details. It should be between 30 seconds and 1 minute long.
This project will count as your Trimester Exam and we will present it on Thursday, May 31st during the exam time. Please have them completed by Wednesday, May 30th. Rubric: •
