Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre Services and Programs The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre provides a holistic service delivery to the entire community. The approach service delivery encompasses all of the life cycles from prenatal through death.The Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre plays a pivotal role in community development, through the delivery of programs and services.
Aboriginal Alcohol & Drug Worker Program Assist Aboriginal people in addressing alcohol/drug issues. Also helps in preventing or minimizing the negative effects of additive substances for Aboriginal individuals, families, and communities in their quest for healthy lifestyles.
Aboriginal Criminal Court Worker Program Assist Aboriginal people involved in the Canadian justice system to better understand their rights, options, and responsibilities when appearing before the court. To provide consistent and ongoing attendance in advance of and during Criminal court and to assist Aboriginal people who come into contact with the law, to ensure that the individual receives unbiased treatment from the legal system, and to act as a liaison between the client and the court.
Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Program Provide services ensuring that the healing and wellness needs of the Aboriginal communities are addressed. This helps to reduce family violence, promote healthy lifestyles and facilitate culturally based programming and healing.
Aboriginal Healthy Babies and Healthy Children (AHBHC) The role of AHBHC worker is to be a helper, an Auntie to support families through home visits. Culturally appropriate activities and services are also offered to families, free of charge, which encourage the whole family to participate. Another objective is to ensure that families have access to services and support that will address their needs.
Akwe:go Program Provides urban Aboriginal children with the support tools and healthy activities. This will build and foster their inherent ability to make healthy choices. The program had been specifically designed to provide a comprehensive to urban Aboriginal children between the ages of 7-12.
Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) Provides services to high need Aboriginal people, to improve the health of Aboriginal mothers and their babies up to 6 months of age and their families that live off-reserve. CPNP focuses on making off-reserves Aboriginal families to be stronger by encouraging the development, delivery and evaluation of community based and cultural appropriate services for Aboriginal women and their babies. CPNP provides food supplements, counseling, support, education, referral to other services and counseling at-risk pregnant women.
Aboriginal Family Support Program Strengthen families, communities and support community development and healing through delivering community based, culturally relevant programs that aim to improve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of off-reserve Aboriginal children 0-6 yrs.
G.R.E.A.T (Grand River Employment and Training) Provides employment and training for the Ohkwehon:we of Six Nations regardless of residence.
Apatisiwin (Employment Unit) Provides strength, promotes self-reliance, enhance the unity of our people, and improve opportunities for meaningful employment through self-determined activities and building employment and training capacity. This program services Aboriginal people who are non-status, unaffiliated to a First Nation or status Indians for other provinces who reside in Ontario.
Wasa-Nabin Provides a comprehensive set of activities for at risk urban Aboriginal youth ages 13-18. This is to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal youth through the delivery of culturally appropriate services and programs.
Mental Health Program Provides Aboriginal people access to appropriate services for their mental health concerns, provides culture sensitive services and to being educating mainstream workers and agencies on the particular needs or Aboriginals.
Urban Aboriginal Healthy Living Program (UAHL)
We have recently added programs: Urban Partnership Urban Partnership is a program that was designed to help 45 youth ages 16+ get a head start on driving education. It offers driving education classes that studies the driver’s handbook and then provided transportation to get their written exam (G1), they are then enrolled in a selected driving school academy to teach them the rules of the road and driving with an instructor. It gives them confidence and early start to help with either their education and/or employment, depending on what stage of life they are at

Youth Navigator Program Cook To formulate a weekly menu for program participants, following the regulations and guidelines of the Canadian/Aboriginal Food Guide and the Public Health Department. Purchase food and kitchen supplies in keeping with budgetary guidelines. Ensure that meals are prepared in proper quantity in relation to weekly program and Centre function needs. Re-

MENTAL HEALTH UPDATE Good Day all of our community members! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Betty Ireland from Oneida First Nation of the Turtle Clan. I have been hired as the Mental Health Worker at the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre and would like to extend a warm welcome to all that may be interested in knowing exactly what I do in this particular job. We all work at having a good mind and good spirit while extending our friendship to our community. It is with great pleasure to give back to our community in a healthy way.
