Music/Panther Drumline– ON TO STATE! Principal Alma Perez-Silva congratulates Samuel Palacios (2017) for his 1st Place win at the UIL Solo Event in Katy. Samuel sang, in Italian, the 17th century song Gia il sole dal Gange by Alessandro Scarlatti. Mr. De La Garza, voice coach and accompanist, said “the adjudicator spent quality time with us, stating the accompanist may inspire the vocalist by leading with the piano as would a conductor with a baton. And that the vocalist must make eye contact with the audience even if they don’t look back.” Samuel recalls that “the judge was like the ladies in those music movies, very inspiring. " The Music Program of the UIL is designed to support and enrich the teaching of music as an integral component of the public school curriculum in the state of Texas. The Band Solo-Ensemble Event was held at Mayde Creek H.S. in Katy last month. Demetrio Alvarado (9th) won a 1st Place rating for his performance of the lyrical “Minuet in G” by J.S. Bach on Trombone. Efren Sanchez (11th) won a 2nd Place rating for his performance of the fiery “TARANTELLE” by Barrow for Trumpet. The parents of these boys are very thankful to RYSS for helping them achieve more than they thought possible.

RYSS Elite Panther Drumline- Thank you to the teachers, administration and staff for supporting our students who are passionate about percussion. The drummers are making this organization viable by practicing many hours in school and in performance. The members are in the top 25 percentile of academics and are becoming musically advanced in other instruments. The drumline was proud to participate in recognizing Colonel Anderson, Sgt.Major Marquez and the RYSS JROTC at the 17th Annual Cesar Chavez Parade in Hidalgo Park. The crowd was excited to hear original student cadences and kept cheering for more. Our next parade is set for Cinco de Mayo.
