January 25, 2017 Dear Parents and Guardians, Here are some of the upcoming events and reminders. Penny Wars have started! Every year, HCSS runs a fundraiser to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each class brings in their spare change and donates it during lunchtime in the bins provided. The class that raises the most money by Friday, February 3rd will win a free study hall and a dress down! Please help support this great cause! Congratulations to those students who made it to the Science Fair on Saturday, January 28th. Don’t forget that students will be allowed in the gym from 9am-9:30am to set up their displays. Parents, guardians, and visitors will not be allowed in the gym until 11:45am, so please do not show up until then. There will be nowhere to wait. The Award Ceremony will begin at 12:30pm. Greetings from the 6th grade! We are now only a week away from the end of the 2nd quarter. We recently took our second benchmark for the 2nd quarter. I wanted to send this letter to give you an idea of your student’s progress so far this year. Included is a copy of their benchmark report, with an average for each term so far, and a copy of their Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 progress reports including their missing homework highlighted. In Quarter 3, there will be a Geography Quarter Final which is cumulative, meaning it can include information from Quarter 1, 2, and 3. The best way for your student to study is to review the homework from all three quarters. All homework is posted on both the database and the Google Classroom and is available to your students at all times. If for some reason internet is an issue, you need to contact me so I can sign a book out to your student. I do not have enough books to sign out to all of the students so I ask that you only ask for a book to be signed out if you cannot access the internet at home. Also, utilizing the resources I have set up for our classroom is a good way to review. I have a website that has been set up with copies of the classroom textbooks (http://astrem6.wixsite.com/geography). Also utilizing the Google Classroom is a great resource for your student. On the Google Classroom are ways to review and study, such as Quizlet.com which is a free online resource where students can make flashcards, create their own quizzes and track their progress. Reviewing the chapters that have been assigned for homework, reading the classroom chapters and creating study resources like flashcards is a very good way for students to study. That being said, I will also be signing out the Chromebooks at the school more often and trying to create some of these study sets as a team from now on, to help assist students in their study skills at home. Please detach the slip at the bottom of this page and return it to the school so I know you received this report from your student. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns and I will do my best to reply to you as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your time. Best,
