6th & 7th Grade Field Trip!! Harvard Museum of Natural History
Dear Parents and Guardians, We at HCSS are dedicated to not only teaching our students inside of the classroom, but trying to find interactive ways to bring our various subjects alive. There is no better place to bring education alive, than at the Harvard Museum of Natural History in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We have arranged a field trip on Friday, December 18th for every 6th and 7th grade student who would like to attend. The field trip is free of charge for any student who is eligible to attend! Students will, however, need to bring a bagged lunch as there is no cafeteria at the museum. HCSS will also be arranging all transportation to and from HCSS to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Students will be returning to the school in time to take the regular busses home at the end of the regular school day (3:30pm dismissal time on Friday). Eligibility Requirements: Students will not be eligible to attend the field trip if they reach 70 points and are assigned a 2nd Saturday Detention. It is important to note, that all students who are attending this field trip are doing so as representatives of our school and their behavior and attitudes reflect us as an established high achieving school in the Pioneer Valley. We are also looking for any parent volunteers who would like to chaperone this field trip. The field trip will be an all-day event and as a chaperone you will be helping to supervise the students as they explore the museum. If you would be interested in chaperoning please contact Mrs. Ross at 413-593-9090 x203 or
[email protected]. We hope to see as many of our students as possible taking advantage of this awesome opportunity! Best, Ms. Strem

Important Reminders from the Nurse: HOT PACKS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE NURSE… The nurse is missing over 20 Hot Packs…There are only a few left and no more will be ordered. A case of 24 was ordered this year, and most are missing. If you have hot packs in your locker, school bag, or at home, please return them ASAP. Soon they will no longer be given out.
NEW RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED BY ALL… The new rules have been announced and posted; they must be followed to keep the Nurse office from over-crowding and to keep students from missing too much class. Students continue to come to the nurse for non-emergent reasons. Students also continue requesting medications (including cough drops) without having submitted parent authorization. Medications are a last resort for serious illness. HCSS does not give out medications unless absolutely necessary. The new rules are included in this newsletter again…please review them.
NEW RULES FOR NURSE VISITS 1. Students should only be visiting the nurse office for emergencies… (severe injuries or severe illness) 2. Students should report to class first, and then ask to go to nurse. 3. Teachers will call first for Nurse to determine if visit is necessary. 4. No more excused tardy passes will be given unless the visit was an approved visit and determined to be absolutely necessary. ***Students should be spending their time in class, not in the nurse’s office.
