Research field Water treatment Subject title Adsorption-oxidation (AdOx) process for removal of organic micropollutants from municipal wastewater Introduction There are increasing concerns about organic microplloutants (OMPs) regarding their health effects and frequent occurrence. Although granular activated carbon has been widely used to remove VOCs from water, the use of granular zeolites is a promising substitute to the conventional activated carbon because of its regenerative properties. The impacts of operating variables on the adsorption/regeneration performance of the granular zeolites will be assessed.
The study The project at the Delft University of Technology focusses on the development of an innovative technology for the removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs) from municipal wastewater. The AdOx process integrates adsorption to zeolites and regeneration by ozonation, and is expected to be able to remove a wide range of OMPs in a cost-effective and sustainable way.
