ALUMNI - WHERE ARE YOU?
SL
Dear St. Louisers, We just finished our 55th year of providing an excellent education with a Catholic foundation for the children of our parish and the surrounding community! It was a successful year full of student achievement in academics, the arts, sports, and service work. This just-completed 2015-16 school year saw our long-time school librarian, Mary Carson, retire after finishing her 24th year at St. Louise. She figuratively and literally “closed the book” this June on her wonderful career teaching students and instilling a love for reading. It was fun to reminisce with Mrs. Carson about how she has seen (and big a big part of helping) our library transform from a smaller space in the original school building with a lesser circulation of books and a set of old, wood drawers holding the card catalog, to our huge library today on the 2nd floor of the new building with one of the largest elementary school circulations, including hundreds of e-books. Our school staff still includes some “old-timers” like myself who were here during the entire “Mary Carson era” – Cindy Scruggs, Veronica Williams, Mary Talevich, Mary Herridge – yet also includes some “rookies” who began their first year at St. Louise this past September. What’s great about this mix of young and old, the mix of newfound and tested, is we can are able to carry on traditions and legacies, as well as continue tried-and-true programs and processes, but also able to bring in fresh ideas and look to the future. Speaking of the future, we just graduated 48 eighth-grade students who will be matriculating to 10 different high schools, and per usual with our graduating classes, they were an impressive bunch of 14 year olds who will obviously be going on to future success in high school and beyond! I am proud of the fine young men and women they are becoming, and our teachers are to be commended for their effective partnering with these students’ parents these past nine years in preparing these children intellectually, morally, physically, and spiritually. As many of you St. Louisers have children approaching school-age, or will in the future, I hope you’ll seriously consider investing in their futures by providing them with a Catholic School education. Of course, I would prefer they attend a certain school in Bellevue that requires a McDonald plaid skirt and red sweater, but for those of you living too far away from our 98007 zip code, I’m sure there is a Catholic school in your city that provides much of the same excellent education for which St. Louise is famous. It was wonderful to reconnect with many of you alumni at our inaugural Alumni Wine Event last October, and we’re doing this again this coming fall. Keep in touch on our Facebook page so you’ll know when events like this are taking place: https:// www.facebook.com/StLouiseSchool. Sincerely,

It is Jill who created this Alumni Magazine and publishes it annually, and we’ll miss her work with promoting alumni events and helping us market our school. Our new development director who will be stepping into Jill’s role on our staff is Laura Leach. Some of you know Laura who, with her husband Rob, have two alumni children of her own – Mason from the St. Louise Class of 2014, and Sarah Beth, Class of 2016.
